The fishing in the Mount Rushmore area is legendary. While most of the lakes and larger bodies of water in the Black Hills are man made, the crystal clear streams and rivers of the area are teeming with one of the area's largest commodities, trout. Grizzly Bear Creek, near Mount Rushmore, is one of the most popular areas to try out your fishing skills in the Black Hills. All kinds of trout can be found in the streams and preserves around Mount Rushmore and your chances of catching a prize are actually very good in this area. Horseback Riding
While horseback riding isn't allowed in the Mount Rushmore National Memorial park, there are plenty of places to enjoy this outdoor activity in the general area. Horseback riding is extraordinarily popular in this area of South Dakota. Trail rides are often coordinated to take you past some of the natural and man made wonders of the Black Hills. There are countless stables and trail ride coordinators in the area, so finding a place to ride shouldn't be too difficult. Mountain Biking

Technical climbing, a derivative of rock climbing, is a pastime of both locals and visitors of the Black Hills. The number of peaks and summits available seem to beckon rock climbers of all ages and levels of experience. Instruction is available in many areas of the Black Hills. Equipment can also be rented in several shops in the area. It should be noted that beginners should not take on technical climbing without instruction and the help of a guide. Rockhounding
