Mount Rushmore Tour

There is more than enough to do at the Mount Rushmore park, so let's just jump right in! Information Center
The first place that you should visit once entering the park is the Information Center. Here you can pick up information about Mt. Rushmore and what is going on inside the park. You can also find information regarding other popular Black Hills attractions. Grandview Terrace
The Grandview Terrace offers one of the best views of the memorial in the entire park. The Terrace is located right about the Lincoln Borglum Museum and is accessible by both stairs and elevators. There are seats in the front of the Terrace if you wish to relax and take in the mountain. The Lincoln Borglum Museum
After viewing Mount Rushmore from the Grandview Terrace, why not go downstairs and learn about the men and the vision that led to the building of the memorial. Here you can view a short film about the vision and building of the memorial. After watching this you can explore the rest of the museum, taking in different parts of the building process and learning about the men who built Mount Rushmore. Sculptor's Studio
This studio was actually built on the command of head designer and sculptor Gutzon Borglum. It was here that he sketched and made plaster molds of Mount Rushmore before sculpting began. Here you can see what the mountain was originally slated to look like and compare it to what stands now. This interesting studio offers insight into the brilliant artist that made Mount Rushmore a possibility. Presidential Trail
After viewing the museums and spending time indoors, it's time to head into the great outdoors once again. Try out the Presidential Trail and be rewarded with amazing views of the sculpture and the Mount Rushmore area in general. The first quarter mile of the trail can be transversed with a park ranger, who will give hikers insight into the building of the memorial and the four presidents who were chosen for representation. This part of the trail is handicap accessible. Avenue of Flags
As you are walking to the Grandview Terrace you will pass under the Avenue of Flags. This special walkway flies the flags of all 56 of the United States' states and territories. It is a moving sight that could also prompt a fun game. If you are from the US try to be the first in your group to spot your state's flag flying in the wind!
