The Alex Johnson Hotel
Located in Rapid City, SD, the Alex Johnson Hotel has been serving the Black Hills community for over 75 years. Designers wanted to build the "Showplace of the West" and they certainly succeeded with the stately architecture that combined Native American ascetics with a German Tudor design. Many Indian influences can be found throughout the hotel, including the Sacred Four Directions imprinted on the lobby's tiles and a large chandelier made with authentic war lances. Two restaurants call Alex Johnson's home, the Paddy O'Neil Pub (named after the first documented guest in the hotel) and the renowned Landmark restaurant. Room service is also available. Guest rooms are decorated in a comfortable fashion, the maple furniture bringing to life furniture styles that were popular in the 1920s. Beds are made with brightly colored quilts that have Native American inspired nuances.
